The award was presented to TMJ’s Managing Director, James Taylor during ISG’s Platinum Trade Constructors’ Evening in London on 12th February 2009. ISG is one of the UK’s leading construction companies and has worked regularly with the Bildeston-based firm on projects including The Royal Festival Hall and Unilever’s new headquarters.
ISG’s Sustainability Award aims to showcase innovative sustainability initiatives in the construction sector. TMJ won the award for its achievement in gaining accreditation from the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council); PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and by the BM Trada Forest Products Chain of Custody Scheme during 2008. In doing so, it has become the first joinery company in the country to have achieved accreditation under all three of the programmes, which between them seek to improve global forestry management and ensure the more responsible use of timber in construction. On receiving the Sustainability Award, James Taylor commented: “As a company which specialises in working with timber we’re all too well aware of the need to safeguard this vital natural resource. “It took a huge effort by all of our staff to carry out all of the work required to ensure we reached these accreditations. All three schemes are quite rightly very demanding and required us to implement a range of new procedures and spend considerable time educating not just our staff but our suppliers and other business partners as well. “All of us agree that it was well worth the effort and we’re proud to accept the award from ISG for our work in the area of sustainability.” ![]() BCO Awards - October 2008 The BCO Awards is the most prestigious awards event in the field of workplace design. The multi-discipline project team was applauded for its commitment to quality and safety and for delivering a piece of infrastructure that turns the head and puts a smile on the face of all who pass through it. TMJ worked on the general public and first class ticket offices. ![]() TMJ first to receive all three chain of custody certifications - June 2008 TMJ is the first specialist joinery contractor to achieve accreditation for all three chain of custody certifications – FSC, PEFC and Forest Products – in conjunction with leading certification body BM Trada Certification Ltd. TMJ sought accreditation following increasing stipulations from clients for entirely sustainable projects and decided to seek all three accreditations in order to recognise and trade with suppliers who are certified by the different schemes, therefore offering clients access to a wider source of material. TMJ believes that it has what clients are looking for and the accreditations will prove to be a unique selling point for the business. The changes implemented throughout TMJ have provided more thorough internal systems culminating in more stringent quality checks. The result of which provides TMJ with the ability to offer an enhanced service to clients. TMJ is eager to inform clients, architects and main contractors of the merits of the accreditations and the impacts on current business processes and is therefore keen to arrange presentations and seminars.
